Quote of the Day

"The times are hard, so the rhymes are hard." - an actor playing rapper Xtra Large on an episode of Monk, which featured Snoop Dogg

As a bonus here's a special version of the Monk theme song done by Snoop. What separates this tune from most of the other bullshit of its ilk is that it has real-sounding drums. Whether it was actually played by a real drummer or programmed, which is probably the case, the drums sound real. Plus there are tom-toms within the groove, and you never, ever hear tom-toms in a programmed Rap or Hip Hop beat.
Most programmed tracks go "Tic-tic SPLAT...ticky-tic SPLAT," and it sounds nothing like real drums. Not that it necessarily has to, but real-sounding drums make the track sound so much richer. Keeps it real, yo. This beat is very syncopated, and almost to the point of the "1" being obliterated, a-la beat-displacement (search beat displacement if interested) and it's very well-done. As usual Snoop shines. This is still music. Most of it is anti-music. It's horseshit. This tune however, is amazing.
For comparison, here's the original version of the theme song, performed by Randy Newman. It's killa too.
